You do not know the scriptures or the power of God
5 JUNE (Mk 12,18-27)
The journey of revelation, over time, is slow, very slow. Sometimes it is made of very tiny, almost insignificant steps at the time that they take place; however, they introduce in history a new way of seeing, feeling, perceiving and grasping reality, of living any other relationship with God and with men. Sometimes a single event, a single sentence, a single word can give the whole history a new course.
This revolutionary force is not only of the prophets. Sometimes it belongs to every child of Abraham. The Lord is not necessarily obliged to speak through his prophets, he can also inspire a son of his people so that he introduces in history a cultural revolution. Consider, for example the lovers of wisdom, the narrators of the works of God, the same family father who bore the burden of education according to the Law of his children. The Lord has no preferential lanes. Every man, every heart, every mouth can be an instrument of his prophecy.
If on the one hand, there is this uninterrupted progress of the journey of revelation – for us in the New Testament of the path of truth to all its fullness under the mighty, wise, intelligent, prudent guidance of the Holy Spirit; on the other hand there are the nostalgic people of the times that went by that close themselves to any development of the manifestation of God in time. These are not traditionalists. On the contrary, they are the true deniers of tradition, since tradition is not the record of what was, but it is the life of the Word in human time and the development of the divine truth.
Nothing is more damaging to the revelation than blind traditionalism. Every traditionalism that does not allow the Word of God to manifest itself in all the fullness of its truth, is blind. Tradition is alive, always on the road towards its fulfillment, the perfection of truth, a more radiant light and the purest knowledge. The tradition is always able to walk in the today of history, to make itself companion of every man that lives in a particular context. Never might its truth be forgotten. Sadducees are blind, foolish and ignorant traditionalists. These live on a dead religion. Their faith is lifeless, because it is without development.
Some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him and put this question to him, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us, ‘If someone’s brother dies, leaving a wife but no child, his brother must take the wife and raise up descendants for his brother.’ Now there were seven brothers. The first married a woman and died, leaving no descendants. So the second married her and died, leaving no descendants, and the third likewise. And the seven left no descendants. Last of all the woman also died. At the resurrection (when they arise) whose wife will she be? For all seven had been married to her.” Jesus said to them, “Are you not misled because you do not know the scriptures or the power of God? When they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but they are like the angels in heaven. As for the dead being raised, have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God told him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, (the) God of Isaac, and (the) God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead but of the living. You are greatly misled.”
The topic of the Sadducees is artificial, not real. It is the limiting case brought to the supreme its possible consequences. Jesus answers that between life down here and life up there, there is no similarity or resemblance. The life of eternity is not a continuation of the present life. After the time everything will be transformed even the body of a man will be transformed by the power of God. It is a completely spiritual, glorious, incorruptible and immortal body, simply angelic for the righteous. While for the damned it is of ignominy, dark and gloomy. In the angelic condition of eternity, nobody will have to get married any more. In addition, the resurrection is not the result of a natural evolution. It is a true new creation by the divine omnipotence. As the Lord has created all things from nothing, in that time he will be able to create every man his body, his very body that had while he was alive, transformed and made of spirit.
