Whoever lives the truth comes to the light
10 APRIL (Jn 3,16-21)
Saying, prophesying, announcing, proclaiming and preaching the truth: these are the ways in which the will of God was given to his people in the Old Testament. The Book of Sirach invites not to contrast, but to fight for the truth till death: “Never gainsay the truth, and struggle not against the rushing stream. Even to the death fight for truth, and the Lord your God will battle for you” (Sir 4,25.28). Other expressions deserve to be mentioned: “I, Tobit, have walked all the days of my life on the paths of truth and righteousness” (Tb 1,3). “All your ways are mercy and truth” (Tb 3, 2). “We have not kept your commandments, nor have we trodden the paths of truth before you” (Tb 3,5). “Loving kindness and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed each other” (Psalm 85,10). “Truth springs from the earth, And righteousness looks down from heaven” (Psalm 85,12). “The works of His hands are truth and justice; All His precepts are sure” (Psalm 111,7). “All Your commandments are faithful” (Psalm 119,86). “Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, And Your law is truth” (Psalm 119,11142). “The sum of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting” (Psalm 119,160). “He tells the truth who states what he is sure of, but a lying witness speaks deceitfully” (Pr 12,17).
Jesus tells us that the truth must be made. If we want to understand what Jesus is teaching us we must read and ponder for a moment the story of creation. The hermeneutical principle of every perfect intelligence is on this page.
Then God said: “Let there be lights in the dome of the sky, to separate day from night. Let them mark the fixed times, the days and the years, and serve as luminaries in the dome of the sky, to shed light upon the earth.” And so it happened: God made the two great lights, the greater one to govern the day, and the lesser one to govern the night; and he made the stars. God set them in the dome of the sky, to shed light upon the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. God saw how good it was. Evening came, and morning followed – the fourth day. Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth all kinds of living creatures: cattle, creeping things, and wild animals of all kinds.” And so it happened: God made all kinds of wild animals, all kinds of cattle, and all kinds of creeping things of the earth. God saw how good it was. Then God said: “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and the cattle, and over all the wild animals and all the creatures that crawl on the ground.” God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them” (Cf. Gen 1,1-31).
Making the truth is a true act of creation. As God is truth, charity, goodness, mercy, omnipotence and makes the universe by placing in it his divine imprint, so that everything breathes of Him, in Him, with Him; so it must be said of man. This is transformed into truth by Christ the Lord, so that he creates everything according to this new essence.
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.
Everyone “creates” in history according to his nature. Jesus Christ is truth and grace, and “creates”, does everything kneading it with grace and truth. Man is not truth, but falsehood. Whatever he does will be works of falsehood and deception. For him to be able to make the truth, create it around himself, it is necessary that he lets himself be made truth and grace by Christ the Lord, as He is truth and grace. No other man is truth and grace and never might they make us truth and grace. This applies to any other founder of a religion. Only Jesus is truth and grace, and He alone can transform us into truth and grace, so that we make the truth with the fullness of his grace. He who is truth makes the truth and one is truth only in Jesus.
Virgin Mary, Mother of the Redemption, Angels and Saints make us truth in Christ the Lord.
