Who had diseases were pressing upon him to touch him
24 JANUARY (Mk 3,7-12)
The prophecy of the Psalm contemplates a glorious, universal king. All peoples flock to him to receive some succour, a help. He is the salvation of every man.
Give the king Your judgments, O God, And Your righteousness to the king’s son. May he judge Your people with righteousness And Your afflicted with justice. Let the mountains bring peace to the people, And the hills, in righteousness. May he vindicate the afflicted of the people, Save the children of the needy And crush the oppressor. Let them fear You while the sun endures, And as long as the moon, throughout all generations. May he come down like rain upon the mown grass, Like showers that water the earth. In his days may the righteous flourish, And abundance of peace till the moon is no more. May he also rule from sea to sea And from the River to the ends of the earth. Let the nomads of the desert bow before him, And his enemies lick the dust. Let the kings of Tarshish and of the islands bring presents; The kings of Sheba and Seba offer gifts. And let all kings bow down before him, All nations serve him. For he will deliver the needy when he cries for help, The afflicted also, and him who has no helper. He will have compassion on the poor and needy, And the lives of the needy he will save. He will rescue their life from oppression and violence, And their blood will be precious in his sight; So may he live, and may the gold of Sheba be given to him; And let them pray for him continually; Let them bless him all day long. May there be abundance of grain in the earth on top of the mountains; Its fruit will wave like the cedars of Lebanon; And may those from the city flourish like vegetation of the earth. May his name endure forever; May his name increase as long as the sun shines; And let men bless themselves by him; Let all nations call him blessed. Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, Who alone works wonders. And blessed be His glorious name forever; And may the whole earth be filled with His glory. Amen, and Amen. The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.(Psalm 72 (71) 1-19).
It is a vision that takes place entirely in Christ Jesus, according to the fullness of Christ’s truth and not according to the thought of the Old Testament, that still believed in a king who would have subjected the peoples and would have ruled them with a rod of iron. Jesus subdues the peoples by attraction to Him and governs them with the scepter of his love, his truth, perfect justice, true brotherhood, the infinite mercy that never refuses to help and assist all those who are in need.
Every man needs help, necessitates great charity. Jesus Christ constituted the greatest love as the one and only way to come to the faith. He is the person who always loves, that loves all, righteous and sinners, believers and non-believers, that never refuses a grace, a miracle and a forgiveness. Due to this great charity, all peoples come running, come to Him, they prostrate themselves, ask, are satisfied and return full of joy.
Jesus withdrew toward the sea with his disciples. A large number of people (followed) from Galilee and from Judea. Hearing what he was doing, a large number of people came to him also from Jerusalem, from Idumea, from beyond the Jordan, and from the neighborhood of Tyre and Sidon. He told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, so that they would not crush him. He had cured many and, as a result, those who had diseases were pressing upon him to touch him. And whenever unclean spirits saw him they would fall down before him and shout, “You are the Son of God.” He warned them sternly not to make him known.
When our religion becomes poor in love, it also becomes poor in people. Today, many people are turning away from our churches because of the great, infinite and abysmal poverty. The cult itself, which should be infinite wealth that from heaven pours into the hearts through the ecclesial mediation, is transformed into a source of income rather than into a gift of grace, truth, peace, piety, compassion, mercy, forgiveness and salvation.
The thought that is found in the Book of Job can be applied to our churches.
My brethren are undependable as a brook, as watercourses that run dry in the wadies; Though they may be black with ice, and with snow heaped upon them, Yet once they flow, they cease to be; in the heat, they disappear from their place. Caravans turn aside from their routes; they go into the desert and perish. The caravans of Tema search, the companies of Sheba have hopes; They are disappointed, though they were confident; they come there and are frustrated. It is thus that you have now become for me; you see a terrifying thing and are afraid. (Job 6,15-21).
When religion is worth nothing, because it gives nothing, because men who serve it give nothing, it is then that no one comes any more and everybody goes away.
Virgin Mary, Mother of the Redemption, Angels and Saints make us a true gift of grace.
