We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God

20 APRIL (Jn 6,60-69)

The error of the Jews is not in the lack of faith in Christ Jesus. It is a non faith in the Father, in God. They do not know who God is. They do not know that the God in whom they believe is eternal and infinite love, charity without measure and divine unlimited omnipotence. They ignore that their God never up to now stopped at the already acquired. The Lord has always manifested to the sons of Israel their habit of faith: stopping at the works given by him in the past.

You are my witnesses, says the Lord, my servants whom I have chosen To know and believe in me and understand that it is I. Before me no god was formed, and after me there shall be none. It is I, I the Lord; there is no savior but me. It is I who foretold, I who saved; I made it known, not any strange god among you; You are my witnesses, says the Lord. I am God, yes, from eternity I am He; There is none who can deliver from my hand: who can countermand what I do? Thus says the Lord, your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: For your sakes I send to Babylon; I will lower all the bars, and the Chaldeans shall cry out in lamentation. I am the Lord, your Holy One, the creator of Israel, your King. Thus says the Lord, who opens a way in the sea and a path in the mighty waters, Who leads out chariots and horsemen, a powerful army, Till they lie prostrate together, never to rise, snuffed out and quenched like a wick. Remember not the events of the past, the things of long ago consider not; See, I am doing something new! Now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? In the desert I make a way, in the wasteland, rivers. Wild beasts honor me, jackals and ostriches, For I put water in the desert and rivers in the wasteland for my chosen people to drink, The people whom I formed for myself, that they might announce my praise. (Is 43,10-21).

Not having in God who is able to transform the flesh and blood of Christ into the food and drink of eternal life, they say to Jesus: “This is a hard saying. Who can accept it? “. All the words of faith are hard on the mind and heart of man. None is understandable. They are all bearers of an unfathomable mystery. But faith lies right in this: basing the personal life not on the Word of God, but on the God who gives the Word. It is God who must be considered worthy of faith. Once this process is carried out in the heart, then every Word of God is credible, because it is said by Him, not because it is understandable and acceptable for itself. It will always be hard for itself.

It is what Peter operates in his profession of faith. He jumps the mystery of the bread of life. It is too high for his mind. It is infinitely beyond his cultural, social, religious and faith horizon. He does not believe in the words of Jesus, he believe in Jesus who speaks words of truth, holiness, justice, peace, love and eternal life. If Jesus is the man with the always true word, what he today said on the bread of life, is truth. Believing firmly in Jesus, Peter believes in all that He says, even if it is incomprehensible and unattainable for any human mind.

Then many of his disciples who were listening said, “This saying is hard; who can accept it?” Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, he said to them, “Does this shock you? What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life. But there are some of you who do not believe.” Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe and the one who would betray him. And he said, “For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father.” As a result of this, many (of) his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him. Jesus then said to the Twelve, “Do you also want to leave?” Simon Peter answered him, “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.”

That of Peter must be for all the perennial dynamics of the faith. This means that the preacher of the Word of Jesus must be credible in the same way that Jesus was a preacher of the Word of the Father. “As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” As I am credible because for the Father, you have to be for me. There should be no difference. The similarity with Jesus must be perfect. The true path of faith today, tomorrow and always is this similarity.

Virgin Mary, Mother of the Redemption, Angels and Saints make us credible for Jesus Christ.
