They have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat
5 DECEMBER (Mt 15,29-37)
Jesus comes to our earth to feed humanity of God, to quench it of his knowledge, to reconstitute it with his grace, to reshape it with his truth. In order to do this it is necessary to read the ancient prophecy and the Book of Proverbs in a Christological key.
All you who are thirsty, come to the water! You who have no money, come, receive grain and eat; Come, without paying and without cost, drink wine and milk! Why spend your money for what is not bread; your wages for what fails to satisfy? Heed me, and you shall eat well, you shall delight in rich fare. Come to me heedfully, listen, that you may have life. I will renew with you the everlasting covenant, the benefits assured to David. As I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander of nations, So shall you summon a nation you knew not, and nations that knew you not shall run to you, Because of the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, who has glorified you. Seek the Lord while he may be found, call him while he is near. Let the scoundrel forsake his way, and the wicked man his thoughts; Let him turn to the Lord for mercy; to our God, who is generous in forgiving. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord (Is 55,1-8).
Wisdom has built her house, she has set up her seven columns; She has dressed her meat, mixed her wine, yes, she has spread her table. She has sent out her maidens; she calls from the heights out over the city: Let whoever is simple turn in here; to him who lacks understanding, I say, Come, eat of my food, and drink of the wine I have mixed! Forsake foolishness that you may live; advance in the way of understanding”. (Pr 9,1-6).
Christ is the water of life, the wisdom and knowledge of the truth on man. He is the one whom the Father has given us as the true bread of life. That is how must look at him whoever wants to see in truth the Lord that comes: as the one who carries out every man’s desire. What is the only desire of a man? The one that Satan has injected him in the Garden of Eden: “You will be like God.” Well, Jesus carries out this desire for every man, on one condition: that he welcomes him as the new tree of life, the new tree of knowledge of good and evil; that he eats Him to live for Him. Only then he will be like God, because he will be made partaker of the divine nature.
Moving on from there Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, went up on the mountain, and sat down there. Great crowds came to him, having with them the lame, the blind, the deformed, the mute, and many others. They placed them at his feet, and he cured them. The crowds were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the deformed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind able to see, and they glorified the God of Israel. Jesus summoned his disciples and said, “My heart is moved with pity for the crowd, for they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, for fear they may collapse on the way.” The disciples said to him, “Where could we ever get enough bread in this deserted place to satisfy such a crowd?” Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” “Seven,” they replied, “and a few fish.” He ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, gave thanks, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds. They all ate and were satisfied. They picked up the fragments left over – seven baskets full.
Jesus is the true bread of grace for the body and soul. Those who are lame, crippled, blind, deaf, dumb, suffering from any other disease, are cured by him. There is no illness that could disobey his command. He orders and health goes back to bodies. These healings are a sign of the truth of his being the true Messiah of the Lord, that comes to heal the other disease, the secret one of the heart, which is the thirst for divinity, to be the man equal to God. Jesus heals also this infirmity of the soul.
There is a world hungry for bread, justice, truth, charity, compassion, mercy, love, sympathy, help, support, light and wisdom. Jesus is also able to satisfy this hunger; however, on one condition: that we seek him, we go behind Him, that we walk in his footsteps. When the Lord sees us, he does not just see our outward appearance; he sees all of us: soul, spirit, mind, heart, wishes, desires, aspiration, hidden and secret hopes. He sees our inner hunger, the thirst of our spirit and gives himself as the true nourishment of eternal life.
Virgin Mary, Mother of the Redemption, Angels and Saints help us to be satisfied with Christ.
