Many (people) followed him, and he cured them all, but he warned them not to make him known

20 JULY (Mt 12,14-21)

Never might any one love according to divine truth, if he does not take upon himself the burden of the sin of the other and does not take charge of all the consequences of the ancient fault and also of all the current faults that are committed daily. God saw that his love was very lacking. It was not perfect. It could have only been a love of creation and liberation. However, it was not a love of redemption and justification. He could have never been able to take the blame for the sins of men nor suffer the consequences of their transgressions. God is supreme perfection. He cannot be imperfect in love, charity, justice, compassion and piety.

In his eternal wisdom and divine omnipotence he decides to become man in his Only Son. Becoming flesh and coming to dwell among us, becoming our true brother, he can assume the entire load of our sins, both the original and the present others. He takes all the load and hangs it on the cross in his body, to kill sin and remove it from the world. So in Christ, the love of God for man becomes perfect, nothing is missing to it anymore. It is love that gives all splendor to the Blessed Trinity. Without this love, the divine charity would have remained very imperfect. The prophecy sees this perfect love and sings it, gives it voice so that it resound in the world. But this perfect love of our God must always be given voice to.

Here is my servant whom I uphold, my chosen one with whom I am pleased, Upon whom I have put my spirit; he shall bring forth justice to the nations, Not crying out, not shouting, not making his voice heard in the street. A bruised reed he shall not break, and a smoldering wick he shall not quench, Until he establishes justice on the earth; the coastlands will wait for his teaching. Thus says God, the Lord, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spreads out the earth with its crops, Who gives breath to its people and spirit to those who walk on it: I, the Lord, have called you for the victory of justice, I have grasped you by the hand; I formed you, and set you as a covenant of the people, a light for the nations, To open the eyes of the blind, to bring out prisoners from confinement, and from the dungeon, those who live in darkness. I am the Lord, this is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to idols. See, the earlier things have come to pass, new ones I now foretell; Before they spring into being, I announce them to you. Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise from the end of the earth: Let the sea and what fills it resound, the coastlands, and those who dwell in them (Is 42,1-10).

What the prophecy proclaims and sings, Jesus assumes it in full in his body. Nothing does he leave without fulfillment, accomplishment. Not only does he assume it. To remove the assumed sin from the world over, he is subjected to the torture of the cross. He dies for love of His creature, for his salvation. In this death the love of God is truly perfect. The innocent gives his life for the guilty, the offended for the offender, God for his creature. So the God who created us with his creative omnipotence is the God who redeems us by his almightiness of charity. If God had not died for love, if he had not given us his Son from the cross, every man could have said to God: “I love you to death. My love is bigger than yours. I die, you cannot die.” God dies and man is reduced to silence. He cannot say to his God even a word of complaint.

But the Pharisees went out and took counsel against him to put him to death. When Jesus realized this, he withdrew from that place. Many (people) followed him, and he cured them all, but he warned them not to make him known. This was to fulfill what had been spoken through Isaiah the prophet: “Behold, my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved in whom I delight; I shall place my spirit upon him, and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles. He will not contend or cry out, nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, a smoldering wick he will not quench, until he brings justice to victory. And in his name the Gentiles will hope.”

Jesus Christ is the depth of God’s love for us. It is his absolute perfection, his absolute fulfillment. With the cross of Jesus nothing more is missing in his love for us. Never might anyone be able to overcome this love, because it is together a love of God and man. It is a gift of the life of God and man. It is eternal, divine and human together.

Virgin Mary, Mother of the Redemption, Angels and Saints teach us this love.
