Jesus rebuked him and said, “Be quiet! Come out of him!
3 SEPTEMBER (Lk 4,31-37)
The authority of Jesus is of omnipotence and power in the Holy Spirit. It is an authority of an always efficacious word and grace. He says and things are. He calls and things come. He orders and things go away. He only needs to say a Word and everything is reduced to silence. This power or omnipotence of Jesus is the same the Psalm sings for the Lord, who makes use of children and infants to silence his enemies.
O LORD, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth, Who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens! From the mouth of infants and nursing babes You have established strength Because of Your adversaries, To make the enemy and the revengeful cease. When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained; What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him? Yet You have made him a little lower than God, And You crown him with glory and majesty! You make him to rule over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, All sheep and oxen, And also the beasts of the field, The birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea, Whatever passes through the paths of the seas. O LORD, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth! (Psalm 8,1-10).
People see the magnificence of Jesus and testify it, cry it out to the whole world, making a difference with their scribes. These had also their word, but it was ineffective, empty and sterile. It was not a word of authority, but of non authority and non command. It did not work and did not create a new reality. Even if it was taught, it immediately slipped away from the heart and mind of who listened to it.
Jesus then went down to Capernaum, a town of Galilee. He taught them on the Sabbath, and they were astonished at his teaching because he spoke with authority. In the synagogue there was a man with the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out in a loud voice, “Ha! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are – the Holy One of God!” Jesus rebuked him and said, “Be quiet! Come out of him!” Then the demon threw the man down in front of them and came out of him without doing him any harm. They were all amazed and said to one another, “What is there about his word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.” And news of him spread everywhere in the surrounding region.
Before Jesus there is no visible and invisible, animate and inanimate creature that cannot refuse to obey. Even the unclean demons must obey him in everything, in his every order and command. The devils obey, but before they try to create him no little trouble revealing the truth of Jesus, that truth that He was still hiding because the hour to talk about it had not yet come. The art of the devil is always for the destruction of man. Even when he tells the truth, he does not tell it for salvation, but for destruction. He does not utter it to create adhesion to God, but confusion, chaos and turning away. Jesus destroys his kingdom. He wants to destroy Jesus.
Jesus knows it and forces him to silence. He commands him to go out and be quiet, to hush. When you donate to the word devil, he knows how to use it for the fall of humanity. For a moment he was given the word in heaven, in the heaven of God, and he managed to seduce a third of the Angels. The others were saved by the timely and energetic intervention of the Archangel Michael. He was given the word of the earthly paradise, and within seconds he destroyed the faith of Eve in her God and Lord.
He is allowed to speak in the desert, where Jesus finds himself in penance, and instantly he procures him three very strong temptations. Today, just for a moment the devil takes the word and he immediately produces great damage in hearts. He reveals the truth of Jesus. He proclaims him the Holy One of God, that is the Messiah of the Lord. Instead, we let the devil to talk and talk from morning to night and from night to morning. We have no possibility to remain immune from his temptation. Even, many are those who attend his school: philosophers, theologians, psychologists, professors, teachers, actors, politicians, ministers of the sacred, men of religion, heads of state, many of the people that matter are daily indoctrinated, educated, soaked of his poison of death by him.
Virgin Mary, Mother of the Redemption, Angels and Saints make us of the only school of Jesus.
