If God were your Father, you would love me
20 MARCH (Jn 8, 31-42)
The freedom of a man starts from the truth. Today the concept of truth has failed. Thus the concept of freedom is completely misplaced. It is lost. We live the same confusion generated by idolatry, as it is described in the Book of Wisdom. It is a general, universal confusion, sparing no one.
Then it was not enough for them to err in their knowledge of God; but even though they live in a great war of ignorance, they call such evils peace. For while they celebrate either child-slaying sacrifices or clandestine mysteries, or frenzied carousals in unheard-of rites, They no longer safeguard either lives or pure wedlock; but each either waylays and kills his neighbor, or aggrieves him by adultery. And all is confusion-blood and murder, theft and guile, corruption, faithlessness, turmoil, perjury, Disturbance of good men, neglect of gratitude, besmirching of souls, unnatural lust, disorder in marriage, adultery and shamelessness. For the worship of infamous idols is the reason and source and extremity of all evil. For they either go mad with enjoyment, or prophesy lies, or live lawlessly or lightly forswear themselves. (Wisdom 14,22-28).
For the man of today, this is freedom: uncoupling of his being from the truth of his nature, his person, his vocation, his charisma, simply release from all that leads him to God, to the supernatural and to the purest transcendence. Today, freedom is living without any divine moral law. There are certain rules so called moral, but it is man the one to impose them to himself independently and even against his own nature. Ours is a world without the truth on man and therefore without his true freedom. Slavery and death are reigning.
True freedom comes from the Word of Jesus. It is our dwelling in the Word of Jesus. He is a true free man who lives permanently in the Word of Jesus. He is a slave who remains outside of his Word. This slavery is what today is consuming and sending to ruin civilizations. The ones we have built will vanish, disappear from the face of the earth. They have within them the principle of their destruction and death. They are imbued with a lethal poison that destroys them in a few years. Before, at least, there were some rules drawn from the conscience. Today, even the conscience got lost. This runs behind the thoughts of its unclean and bad heart.
Jesus then said to those Jews who believed in him, “If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are descendants of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How can you say, ‘You will become free’?” Jesus answered them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. A slave does not remain in a household forever, but a son always remains. So if a son frees you, then you will truly be free. I know that you are descendants of Abraham. But you are trying to kill me, because my word has no room among you. I tell you what I have seen in the Father’s presence; then do what you have heard from the Father.” They answered and said to him, “Our father is Abraham.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would be doing the works of Abraham. But now you are trying to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God; Abraham did not do this. You are doing the works of your father!” (So) they said to him, “We are not illegitimate. We have one Father, God.” Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and am here; I did not come on my own, but he sent me.
Another powerful principle announced by Jesus in this Gospel must help reveal the falsity of all our religion. Who has God as his Father and loves him according to truth, justice and holiness, he will certainly come to Christ Jesus. He will recognize, love and honor him as the true sent of the Father. He will also recognize him as his true Son. This principle calls into question all our ideas on religions. Christ is their truth. A religion is true if it comes to Christ, if it takes to Him. What is actually a religion? It is the constant search of the true God and Lord. Religion is not an already acquired search. If it is acquired it is not a true religion. The constant search of the true God and Lord is of the true religion. Who really searches, with purity of intention and straight conscience the true God, he will always come to Jesus Christ.
