I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven
29 JUNE (Mt 16,13-19)
One does not follow a person. He follows the truth or falsity of a person, the virtues or vices, the goodness or wickedness, the impiety or true worship of God, love or hatred, forgiveness or revenge, poverty or wealth, knowledge or ignorance and the light or darkness that flows from him. Knowing who you follow is an inalienable right. Make ourselves be known by who follows us is a duty which obliges all the time.
When a person changes status of his being, it is right that he manifests it, so that everyone can change discipleship and sequel. On the contrary, if you follow the person, this can always change the manner and form, substance and accidents of his life, the discipleship does not change. But since one follows the essence of the person, it is right that this essence is known in its every small change or modification.
The disciples follow Jesus Christ. Jesus is obliged to say who he is. He must manifest it in fullness of truth. He must hide nothing of his innermost being, of his calling, of his ministry, of the will that the Father has set for him from eternity. After all, what is the public life of Jesus the Lord except a gradual manifestation of his deepest being, of his truest vocation, of the will of God written and prophesied for Him and that He must bring to fulfillment in every part?
From today on, Jesus begins to reveal his apostles his truth according to the will of God, a truth of nature and mission, a truth for today and for tomorrow. The truth of Jesus is not just about him, but also his apostles, first of all Peter, who is called to be the visible foundation on which Jesus wants to build his Church. The truth of Jesus is involving. It is not just for him, is also for the disciples, and through the disciples to every other man that will get convert to Him through their word.
When Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
By the will of the Father, Peter shares in the truth of Jesus Christ, becomes truth of the truth of his Master and Lord. From this moment on Peter no longer belongs to himself. His life is taken from the Father of heaven and it is his forever. From this moment on, Peter, like Christ Jesus, must let himself be moved and guided only by the Holy Spirit. He cannot walk behind his thoughts and even behind his conscience even if it is read in a prolonged prayer. His conscience no longer belongs to Peter. It was delivered to the Heavenly Father and it is the Heavenly Father, through His Holy Spirit, the one that must govern, direct it and move it.
This truth is hard to understand. From this moment on Peter is asked to imitate his Master and Lord. Jesus at the River Jordan stripped himself of his will, he handed it to the Father, it is as if the Father replaced it with the Holy Spirit. So that Peter is in all like his Master: he can serve himself neither of his will nor of his conscience. Will and conscience are in Him the Holy Spirit that must always lead him onto the most pure will of God. From his vocation on Peter expropriated his own self, he can no longer have tastes, desires, will, conscience, weakness and uncertainties. He is all of the Holy Spirit and must always let himself be moved by the Holy Spirit. It is a life no longer his, because it was all delivered to God. What is gives to God, is gives once and for all. Never might it be taken away from the Lord. If it is subtracted, a covenant of nature is broken.
Virgin Mary, Mother of the Redemption, Angels and Saints give us the truth of Jesus.
