He is not God of the dead, but of the living
10 NOVEMBRE (Lk 20,27-38)
The argument of falsehood, folly, foolishness, lying is just of the foolish, arrogant and the bully. He first gives himself to evil, then justifies all his actions by resorting to the claim that God does not exist. Saying that God does not exist, not only God is denied in itself, the principle of truth, justice, charity, responsibility, mercy and right is also denied.
God is truth, justice, charity, mercy, the right on which the life of man is founded. Who denies the existence of God he instantly denies the very principle of true humanity. Immediately one falls into the non-humanity, inhumanity, delinquency, transgression; spiritual, material, physical, political and economic chaos. Everything is lost when God is missed. Nothing remains when God does not remain Atheism is the foundation of human chaos.
Why do You stand afar off, O LORD? Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble? In pride the wicked hotly pursue the afflicted; Let them be caught in the plots which they have devised. For the wicked boasts of his heart’s desire, And the greedy man curses and spurns the LORD. The wicked, in the haughtiness of his countenance, does not seek Him. All his thoughts are, “There is no God.” His ways prosper at all times; Your judgments are on high, out of his sight; As for all his adversaries, he snorts at them. He says to himself, “I will not be moved; Throughout all generations I will not be in adversity.” His mouth is full of curses and deceit and oppression; Under his tongue is mischief and wickedness. He sits in the lurking places of the villages; In the hiding places he kills the innocent; His eyes stealthily watch for the unfortunate. He lurks in a hiding place as a lion in his lair; He lurks to catch the afflicted; He catches the afflicted when he draws him into his net. He crouches, he bows down, And the unfortunate fall by his mighty ones. He says to himself, “God has forgotten; He has hidden His face; He will never see it.” Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up Your hand. Do not forget the afflicted. Why has the wicked spurned God? He has said to himself, “You will not require it.” You have seen it, for You have beheld mischief and vexation to take it into Your hand. The unfortunate commits himself to You; You have been the helper of the orphan. Break the arm of the wicked and the evildoer, Seek out his wickedness until You find none. The LORD is King forever and ever; Nations have perished from His land. O LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will strengthen their heart, You will incline Your ear To vindicate the orphan and the oppressed, So that man who is of the earth will no longer cause terror (Psalm 10 (9), 1-18).
The Sadducees are true religious atheists. They do not believe in God. They do not make use of the principles of faith to resolve their human affairs. They are people who know that they use sophism, false argument, dialectic, every other invention of their mind to confuse the simple, small and those who do not have a mature and strong faith.
Some Sadducees, those who deny that there is a resurrection, came forward and put this question to him, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us, ‘If someone’s brother dies leaving a wife but no child, his brother must take the wife and raise up descendants for his brother.’ Now there were seven brothers; the first married a woman but died childless. Then the second and the third married her, and likewise all the seven died childless. Finally the woman also died. Now at the resurrection whose wife will that woman be? For all seven had been married to her.” Jesus said to them, “The children of this age marry and remarry; but those who are deemed worthy to attain to the coming age and to the resurrection of the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. They can no longer die, for they are like angels; and they are the children of God because they are the ones who will rise. That the dead will rise even Moses made known in the passage about the bush, when he called ‘Lord’ the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob; and he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.”
The Sadducees can deceive men, but certainly not Lord Jesus, who comes from Heaven and knows how to live in it. Up there all will live like Angels. These neither take a wife nor a husband. Up there, we will not get married anymore. The principle of their argument falls. If one no longer gets married, a woman might live not with seven, but with seventy-seven thousand other men. There is no longer any body in its physical reality, because this will be transformed into a spiritual reality. Jesus Christ does not die and does not rise to give a man a bit of life on this earth. He dies and rises to lead man into his eternal paradise. That is how the Lord loves us: for eternity and not for a while.
