For you do not know on which day your Lord will come
28 AUGUST (Mt 24,42-51)
We can classify the passage that today’s liturgy poses for our meditation useless. Reflecting on it is a real loss of time. Le no one be shocked. Let nobody rip up his clothes. Let nobody sprinkle his heads with ashes as a sign of mourning for having declared useless a page of the Gospel, or rather a Word of Lord Jesus. We know this. All his words are truth, justice and holiness. The whole Gospel is eternal life for us. In every one of his sentences the path of our obedience is outlined.
So why can it be classified as useless and vain? Because the saddest, blackest, most evil and the most hellish of heresies winds in the Church today. Today, much of the world theological intelligence teaches and preaches that we are all saved, regardless of the conversion, of our return to God, of the morally sound life, conforming to the revealed truth which one lives. One can live as a dishonest, thief, adulterer, avaricious, wicked, idolatrous person and at the end he will equally inherit eternal life. For these elevated and less elevated minds in the science of theology, paradise is a gift of the Lord. It is no longer considered a gift and a fruit.
No longer being even a result of the response of faith to the Word of the Lord, not only this page will lose the value of revelation and truth, but the whole Gospel is deprived of the obedience due to it. Sometimes a single wrong principle that is introduced in our faith, disturbs, spoils and send to the dogs all revelation. Our faith is an apparatus of most high supernatural logic. It is a divine system in which every truth becomes force and principle of every other truth. If one truth is deleted, the whole system collapses, is thwarted, made illogical and incomprehensible. One word of Jesus Christ is the light for all the other words of Scripture and of the Gospel. Repealed this Word, the others become insignificant. They do not make any sense.
Why must we watch, be careful, look after our moral and spiritual elevation? Why must we observe all the Word and the whole Gospel? Why must we put all commitment to walk in the truth that Jesus Christ has revealed us? Because at the very moment of our death judgment comes. We will appear before God to be assessed according to our works of good and evil. If we are found faithful, we will go with Him to Heaven. On the contrary, if the Lord will find us missing the place for us will be in hell, in torments. However, if as many enlightened minds teach today, there is no eternal damnation, then what is the use of watching, being alert and walking in the truth? There is no use.
Therefore, stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come. Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour of night when the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and not let his house be broken into. So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come. “Who, then, is the faithful and prudent servant, whom the master has put in charge of his household to distribute to them their food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master on his arrival finds doing so. Amen, I say to you, he will put him in charge of all his property. But if that wicked servant says to himself, ‘My master is long delayed,’ and begins to beat his fellow servants, and eat and drink with drunkards, the servant’s master will come on an unexpected day and at an unknown hour and will punish him severely and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.
He will punish him severely and will inflict him the fate hypocrites deserve. Today, this word has been abolished by many. Without this word, everything becomes useless. Even Christian life itself becomes meaningless. The whole Gospel evaporates in no meaning. Good and evil do not produce an eternal fruit. At the end there will be only the good that will triumph and the Lord’s mercy will embrace all. It is urgent to get converted to the revealed truth. It is necessary that the Gospel is confessed and believed as the one and only word of revelation about our eternal future. Heaven exists and Hell exists and they are eternal. But they are also the result of our good and evil works.
Virgin Mary, Mother of the Redemption, Angels and Saints give us true faith in Jesus.
