But wisdom is vindicated by all her children
19 SEPTEMBER (Lk 7,31-35)
Wisdom is the very science of God that dwells in the heart of man. It is a gift you get on request. We must all ask the Lord to fill us with the wisdom his heart is filled with. We can walk from truth to truth, and from light to light with it. We can see God manifesting himself in our history.
For both we and our words are in his hand, as well as all prudence and knowledge of crafts. For he gave me sound knowledge of existing things, that I might know the organization of the universe and the force of its elements, The beginning and the end and the midpoint of times, the changes in the sun’s course and the variations of the seasons. Cycles of years, positions of the stars, natures of animals, tempers of beasts, Powers of the winds and thoughts of men, uses of plants and virtues of roots – Such things as are hidden I learned and such as are plain; for Wisdom, the artificer of all, taught me. For in her is a spirit intelligent, holy, unique, Manifold, subtle, agile, clear, unstained, certain, Not baneful, loving the good, keen, unhampered, beneficent, kindly, Firm, secure, tranquil, all-powerful, all-seeing, And pervading all spirits, though they be intelligent, pure and very subtle. For Wisdom is mobile beyond all motion, and she penetrates and pervades all things by reason of her purity. For she is an aura of the might of God and a pure effusion of the glory of the Almighty; therefore nought that is sullied enters into her. For she is the refulgence of eternal light, the spotless mirror of the power of God, the image of his goodness. And she, who is one, can do all things, and renews everything while herself perduring; And passing into holy souls from age to age, she produces friends of God and prophets. For there is nought God loves, be it not one who dwells with Wisdom. For she is fairer than the sun and surpasses every constellation of the stars. Compared to light, she takes precedence; for that, indeed, night supplants, but wickedness prevails not over Wisdom. (Wisdom 7,16-30).
Jesus came among us. He spoke us of his Father. He manifested him to us. He made us see his truth. He placed us before the power of his grace. He freed man from all physical and spiritual bondage. The people of his generation said of him: “Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of publicans and sinners.” This judgment on Jesus attests that this generation is foolish, ignorant, and unable to see God working according to the greatness of his mercy.
“Then to what shall I compare the people of this generation? What are they like? They are like children who sit in the marketplace and call to one another, ‘We played the flute for you, but you did not dance. We sang a dirge, but you did not weep.’ For John the Baptist came neither eating food nor drinking wine, and you said, ‘He is possessed by a demon.’ The Son of Man came eating and drinking and you said, ‘Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is vindicated by all her children.”
The children of darkness are unable to recognize the wisdom of God. They are foolish and everything is foolishness before their eyes. They are darkness and think that all is darkness as darkness is their heart, their mind, and their spirit. Every man’s judgment is the fruit of his heart. If his heart is light, his every word will be light. If his heart is impiety, his every word will be none but impiety.
Jesus is the Eternal Wisdom of the Father who became flesh and came to dwell among us, to give us grace and truth, and to reveal us the Father in his great mercy. Who will recognize his truth? Who will proclaim him come from God, his sent for our salvation? This might be done only by him who is a son of wisdom. All those who are possessed by wisdom or seek wisdom with a pure and simple heart, do it. Never might Jesus be recognized as the one sent by the Father, his true prophet, and his way for our redemption; by those who are proud, covetous, boasters, unjust, envious, lustful, greedy, lazy, arrogant, presumptuous; since they are children of folly. When Jesus is not known in his truth it is the sign that wisdom does not live in us but folly; not justice lives in us but injustice, not truth but falsehood, not love but hate, not light but darkness, and not holiness but sin.
Virgin Mary, Mother of the Redemption, Angels, and Saints give us the true heavenly wisdom.
