Children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray

16 AUGUST (Mt 19,13-15)

Every child, from the first moment of his conception, belongs to the Lord. He wants to make of him a tool to build his kingdom on earth. He wants to constitute him the bearer of his salvation in the midst of his brothers. That is how this fundamental, primary, essential truth is announced by the Lord to Jeremiah.

The word of the Lord came to me thus: Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you. “Ah, Lord GOD!” I said, “I know not how to speak; I am too young.” But the Lord answered me, Say not, “I am too young.” To whomever I send you, you shall go; whatever I command you, you shall speak. Have no fear before them, because I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord. Then the Lord extended his hand and touched my mouth, saying, See, I place my words in your mouth! This day I set you over nations and over kingdoms, To root up and to tear down, to destroy and to demolish, to build and to plant.

The word of the Lord came to me with the question: What do you see, Jeremiah? “I see a branch of the watching-tree,” I replied. Then the Lord said to me: Well have you seen, for I am watching to fulfil my word. A second time the word of the Lord came to me with the question: What do you see? “I see a boiling cauldron,” I replied, “that appears from the north.” And from the north, said the Lord to me, evil will boil over upon all who dwell in the land. Lo, I am summoning all the kingdoms of the north, says the Lord; Each king shall come and set up his throne at the gateways of Jerusalem, Opposite her walls all around and opposite all the cities of Judah. I will pronounce my sentence against them for all their wickedness in forsaking me, And in burning incense to strange gods and adoring their own handiwork. But do you gird your loins; stand up and tell them all that I command you. Be not crushed on their account, as though I would leave you crushed before them; For it is I this day who have made you a fortified city, A pillar of iron, a wall of brass, against the whole land: Against Judah’s kings and princes, against its priests and people. They will fight against you, but not prevail over you, for I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord (Jer 1,4-19).

Every newly conceived child has two fundamental rights, of which no one might ever deprive him: the right to life and the right to be the kingdomof God and the instrument of His truth and charity. Man was given the power to give life, but not the power to remove it. Abortion is deprivation of the newly born child of these two fundamental rights: the right of a man and the right of God. The right to be born as a human person to life and the right to be born to the kingdom of God as a person completely transformed and sanctified by the grace and the truth of Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit and the ministry of the Church. Against these two rights there is no law. No law is human if it deprives man of only one of his rights. Every law is inhuman, antihuman if a man is deprived of even a millionth part of a right that belongs to him by nature.

Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked them, but Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” After he placed his hands on them, he went away.

As anti-human, inhuman abortion is, so inhuman and anti-human is divorce and all other forms of union other than marriage founded on stability, fidelity and indissolubility. The child has the right not only to life, but also the right to grow alimented by the love of father and mother, of which he must necessarily feed to grow healthy, balanced and perfect in his humanity. Depriving a child of the love of the father and mother that must be given him in a real family, is a highly inhuman act. It is condemning the child to a non real growth. It is a fundamental, natural right that must never be taken away from him. Another right is that of growing in a human and religious community elevated in every virtue. Even the highest holiness is due to him. They also have the right to access to the holiness of Christ and no one must hinder them. Today the holiness of Christ must be the sanctity of all of his disciples.
