And the crowds were amazed

10 OCTOBER (Lk 11,15-26)

Darkness always hates the light. Where there is light there is no place for darkness. In the world, it is necessary that they declare war to light and make it disappear for them to continue on reigning. How? By removing its bearers. This is a struggle that began in Heaven and that will end only on the day whenlight and darkness, sons of light and sons of darkness will be divided forever. But this will happen on the day of the creation of the new heavens and the new earth. Up to that time, the coexistence is needed, as the fight, the battle of light against darkness and of darkness against light, are necessary. Truelight will always be countered by darkness. This will never give up. It will go as far as both the physical and spiritual killing of the children of light.

Then war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels battled against the dragon. The dragon and its angels fought back, but they did not prevail and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. The huge dragon, the ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, who deceived the whole world, was thrown down to earth, and its angels were thrown down with it. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have salvation and power come, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Anointed. For the accuser of our brothers is cast out, who accuses them before our God day and night. They conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; love for life did not deter them from death. Therefore, rejoice, you heavens, and you who dwell in them. But woe to you, earth and sea, for the Devil has come down to you in great fury, for he knows he has but a short time.”

When the dragon saw that it had been thrown down to the earth, it pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child. But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle, so that she could fly to her place in the desert, where, far from the serpent, she was taken care of for a year, two years, and a half-year. The serpent, however, spewed a torrent of water out of his mouth after the woman to sweep her away with the current. But the earth helped the woman and opened its mouth and swallowed the flood that the dragon spewed out of its mouth. Then the dragon became angry with the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring, those who keep God’s commandments and bear witness to Jesus. (18) It took its position on the sand of the sea (Rev 12,7-18).

The crowds are taken by wonder, seeing the great strength of liberation and salvation of the Lord Jesus. What instead do the children of darkness andthe sons of Satan, say? They accuse Jesus of “mafia” connivance with the devil, with Beelzebub, who is the prince of the devils. This is a defamatoryaccusation. It is a slander and false testimony with the sole purpose of discrediting Jesus to the multitude in such a way that his light did not penetrateinto their hearts. Darkness always used weapons of darkness to destroy the light. On the contrary, the light must always serve itself of the weapons of light to defeat darkness. Evil uses evil. The good must always serve itself of the good.

He was driving out a demon (that was) mute, and when the demon had gone out, the mute person spoke and the crowds were amazed. Some of them said, “By the power of Beelzebul, the prince of demons, he drives out demons.” Others, to test him, asked him for a sign from heaven. But he knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste and house will fall against house. And if Satan is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that it is by Beelzebul that I drive out demons. If I, then, drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your own people drive them out? Therefore they will be your judges. But if it is by the finger of God that (I) drive out demons, then the kingdom of Godhas come upon you. When a strong man fully armed guards his palace, his possessions are safe. But when one stronger than he attacks and overcomes him, he takes away the armor on which he relied and distributes the spoils. Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. “When an unclean spirit goes out of someone, it roams through arid regions searching for rest but, finding none, it says, ‘I shall return to my home from which I came.’ But upon returning, it finds it swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and brings back seven other spirits more wicked than itself who move in and dwell there, and the last condition of that person is worse than the first.”

Jesus is the powerful, the strong, the most powerful, the strongest. He casts out Satan with the finger of God.
