The Lord appointed seventy (-two) others
18 OCTOBER (Lk 10,1-9)
To understand every action of Jesus one must enter into his heart, in which the fullness of the truth dwells, which is the heart of the Father. TheFather’s heart is all in the heart of Jesus. Jesus knows the truth of the Father. The heart of Jesus is all in the heart of his disciple. His disciple knows the truth of Jesus Christ. Knowing the truth of Jesus Christ, he knows the truth of the Father, the only one that moves every action of Jesus the Lord.Nothing in Jesus comes from his heart, his will and his desires. Everything in him is from the will of the Father, from his heart, from his wishes of true salvation. This truth is beautifully revealed by the Lord Jesus himself.
So the crowd answered him, “We have heard from the law that the Messiah remains forever. Then how can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?” Jesus said to them, “The light will be among you only a little while. Walk while you have the light, so that darkness may not overcome you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of the light.” After he had said this, Jesus left and hid from them. Although he had performed so many signs in their presence they did not believe in him, in order that the word which Isaiah the prophet spoke might be fulfilled: “Lord, who has believed our preaching, to whom has the might of the Lord been revealed?” For this reason they could not believe, because again Isaiah said: “He blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, so that they might not see with their eyes and understand with their heart and be converted, and I would heal them.” Isaiah said this because he saw his glory and spoke about him. Nevertheless, many, even among the authorities, believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they did not acknowledge it openly in order not to be expelled from the synagogue. For they preferred human praise to the glory of God. Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in me believes not only in me but also in the one who sent me, and whoever sees me sees the one who sent me. I came into the world as light, so that everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness. And if anyone hears my words and does not observe them, I do not condemn him, for I did not come to condemn the world but to save the world. Whoever rejects me and does not accept my words has something to judge him: the word that I spoke, it will condemn him on the last day, because I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life. So what I say, I say as the Father told me” (Jn 12,34-50).
Today the interpretation of the Gospel is in great suffering. It is a sign that the heart of Christ does not dwell in the heart of the Christian. It is theChristian the one that no longer sees the necessity of the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church as the true, unique and only sacrament of salvationfor the whole world. It is the Christian that does not see the indispensability of the Lord Jesus for the salvation of men. Jesus that sees and acts from the heart of the Father sees the indispensable place of a man in the work of redemption, and constitutes him another himself, with the same powers and the same mission. We should think and reflect about it.
After this the Lord appointed seventy (-two) others whom he sent ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit. He said to them, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest. Go on your way; behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves. Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals; and greet no one along the way. Into whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this household.’ If a peaceful person lives there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you. Stay in the same house and eat and drink what is offered to you, for the laborer deserves his payment. Do not move about from one house to another. Whatever town you enter and they welcome you, eat what is set before you, cure the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God is at hand for you.’
From the heart of the Father, Jesus raises us to his own mission of saviours of the world. From our hearts we destroy us as unique and only Saviours ofman. The difference exists and it is abysmal. He makes us Him. We make us Him. We destroy him. He builds us up and elevates us. We lower and deny him in his truth. The human heart of a man produces this devastation when the heart of the Lord Jesus does not live in it. Our hearts without hisknows how to produce these works of death.
Virgin Mary, Mother of the Redemption, Angels and Saints give us the heart of Jesus the Lord.
