He knows not how

1 FEBRUARY (Mk 4,26-34)

It is almost similar to what Jesus teaches us today, what the prophet Isaiah says on the Word of God proclaimed by him as water that comes down from heaven and does not return to heaven before having fertilized the earth. The Lord sends his Word, this produces according to the divine will, and then returns to Him, ready to descend again onto our earth, work in the hearts conversion or infidelity, blasphemy and idolatry.
All you who are thirsty, come to the water! You who have no money, come, receive grain and eat; Come, without paying and without cost, drink wine and milk! Why spend your money for what is not bread; your wages for what fails to satisfy? Heed me, and you shall eat well, you shall delight in rich fare. Come to me heedfully, listen, that you may have life. I will renew with you the everlasting covenant, the benefits assured to David. As I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander of nations, So shall you summon a nation you knew not, and nations that knew you not shall run to you, Because of the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, who has glorified you. Seek the Lord while he may be found, call him while he is near. Let the scoundrel forsake his way, and the wicked man his thoughts; Let him turn to the Lord for mercy; to our God, who is generous in forgiving. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways above your ways and my thoughts above your thoughts. For just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down And do not return there till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, Giving seed to him who sows and bread to him who eats, So shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; It shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it. Yes, in joy you shall depart, in peace you shall be brought back; Mountains and hills shall break out in song before you, and all the trees of the countryside shall clap their hands. In place of the thorn bush, the cypress shall grow, instead of nettles, the myrtle. This shall be to the Lord’s renown, an everlasting imperishable sign. (Is 55,1-13).

The Gospel according to Mark announces us that the Word of God is in everything like a seed that is cast upon the earth. The seed has in itself the vitality and strength to germinate, grow and bear fruit. The willingness to throw it into the ground or leave it in the barn depends on the farmer. Once the seed has been consigned to the earth, then nothing more depends on the farmer. Whether this sleeps or wakes, at night or in the day; in no way might he affect the seed. The life of the seed is all in the seed, it is no longer in the one who has sown it. its path is mysterious, arcane, nobody knows it.

The truth that we are taught is great. Jesus assures his Church. Church of God if you give the pure Word of your Lord to the world, it will always produce good fruit. Time, manners and circumstances will always escape you. They are not in your power. They are in God’s power and in the vitality of conversion and salvation that are proper to the Word preached, proclaimed, taught, offered, given with conviction, strength and power of the Holy Spirit and the great witness of the one who gives it.
He said, “This is how it is with the kingdom of God; it is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land and would sleep and rise night and day and the seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how. Of its own accord the land yields fruit, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. And when the grain is ripe, he wields the sickle at once, for the harvest has come.” He said, “To what shall we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable can we use for it? It is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth. 7 But once it is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade.” With many such parables he spoke the word to them as they were able to understand it. Without parables he did not speak to them, but to his own disciples he explained everything in private.

Today the world is suffering from a severe famine of conversion and salvation because the Word is not given in its purity and simplicity. It is instead offer, but after having being examined by the mind and heart of man. After being steeped in falsehood, lies, deception, impiety that abound also in the one who says he is a believer. It is as if we sowed flour or stones instead of the Word.

Virgin Mary, Mother of the Redemption, Angels and Saints make us sowers of the Word.
