The Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth
26 MAY (Jn 16,12-15)
Consciousness of never being able to know the will of the Lord fully was already an Old Testament acquisition. The pious man of God was always in prayer so that the Lord sent his wisdom on him. Wisdom is like the air, the more you breathe, the more you consume and the more you need of it. Since only God can give it from his royal throne, prayer must rise assiduously to Him.
God of my fathers, Lord of mercy. you who have made all things by your word And in your wisdom have established man to rule the creatures produced by you, To govern the world in holiness and justice, and to render judgment in integrity of heart: Give me Wisdom, the attendant at your throne, and reject me not from among your children; For I am your servant, the son of your handmaid, a man weak and short-lived and lacking in comprehension of judgment and of laws. Indeed, though one be perfect among the sons of men, if Wisdom, who comes from you, be not with him, he shall be held in no esteem. You have chosen me king over your people and magistrate for your sons and daughters. You have bid me build a temple on your holy mountain and an altar in the city that is your dwelling place, a copy of the holy tabernacle which you had established from of old. Now with you is Wisdom, who knows your works and was present when you made the world; Who understands what is pleasing in your eyes and what is conformable with your commands. Send her forth from your holy heavens and from your glorious throne dispatch her That she may be with me and work with me, that I may know what is your pleasure. For she knows and understands all things, and will guide me discreetly in my affairs and safeguard me by her glory; Thus my deeds will be acceptable, and I shall judge your people justly and be worthy of my father’s throne.
For what man knows God’s counsel, or who can conceive what our Lord intends? For the deliberations of mortals are timid, and unsure are our plans. For the corruptible body burdens the soul and the earthen shelter weighs down the mind that has many concerns. And scarce do we guess the things on earth, and what is within our grasp we find with difficulty; but when things are in heaven, who can search them out? Or who ever knew your counsel, except you had given Wisdom and sent your holy spirit from on high? And thus were the paths of those on earth made straight, and men learned what was your pleasure, and were saved by Wisdom. (Wisdom 9,1-18).
Jesus knows all the divine vitality that is contained in all his Word. No human heart can might ever live it according to fullness of truth. In addition, the Word must be “personalized” by every heart. This “personalization” takes place with the encounter of the Word with the special and particular gift of the Holy Spirit. It is in the gift of the Spirit that the Word must grow and develop. Since the gift is personal, even the life of the Word is personal, that is unique and unrepeatable.
For this to happen it is necessary that the Holy Spirit hovers forever in the heart and mind of every disciple of Jesus. He is the Divine Farmer of the Word of Jesus. He is the one that must bring it to perfect ripeness. He is the one that must give it every day its divine energy so that it produces the fruit contained in it. The guide to the whole truth is not universal, it is personal. It is for every disciple of Jesus. Every believer in Christ the Lord is taken and led by the Holy Spirit into all truth. It is not a matter of the truth in itself, which is God and is also infinite. Instead, it is a matter of the truth that must develop and produce fruit in his heart. The truth is the grace, the gift personal.
“I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.
This work of the Holy Spirit will never cease. Every man, every day, at all times must be conducted into all truth. This is the only rule of Christian holiness: letting one be led by the Spirit to all the truth. The Christian saint is not one who lives the Gospel; he is, instead, one who lets himself be led to the whole truth.
Virgin Mary, Mother of the Redemption, Angels and Saints give us the Spirit of truth.
