Blessed are the eyes that see what you see

4 DECEMBER (Lk 10,21-24 )

The Lord had always prophesied it: he is not with the proud, the arrogant, the bullying, the spoiled, the violator of his alliance with the learned swollen with his knowledge, with the cultured imprisoned in his knowledge and choked by it. He is with the humble, the pure of heart, the simple, the small, the one who knows how to be always as a child.

Thus says the Lord: The heavens are my throne, the earth is my footstool. What kind of house can you build for me; what is to be my resting place? My hand made all these things when all of them came to be, says the Lord. This is the one whom I approve: the lowly and afflicted man who trembles at my word. Merely slaughtering an ox is like slaying a man; sacrificing a lamb, like breaking a dog’s neck; Bringing a cereal offering, like offering swine’s blood; burning incense, like paying homage to an idol. Since these have chosen their own ways and taken pleasure in their own abominations, I in turn will choose ruthless treatment for them and bring upon them what they fear. Because, when I called, no one answered, when I spoke, no one listened; Because they did what was evil in my sight, and chose what gave me displeasure” (Is 66,1-4).

Who is the wise and who is the learned in the language of Jesus? The learned and the wise are those who have made their minds and their thoughts the only principle of reading, comprehension, interpretation, exegesis, hermeneutics and absolute truth of the entire visible and invisible universe, of time and of eternity. Who on the contrary is the small of the gospel? It is he who does not believe in what he sees, thinks and imagines. Instead he believes in what he is told. He welcomes as a sponge does what he hears.

Jesus is the only Master of mankind not by science not even by learning from men. He is the true Master because He is the truth, the grace, the way, the life, wisdom, intelligence and eternal knowledge. He does not see eternity. He is eternity. He does not see God. He is God. He does not listen to the Word of God like the prophets. He is the Word of God made flesh, history, life and presence in the world. He is the only one who can speak, because he is the only one that is what he says. The learned, the intelligent of this world, is a leather skin tightly sealed. No water of truth might be introduced in it, and the same goes for the wise. Instead, the little one is in all similar to a fertile land to be cultivated. A whole river might run on it and it will absorb it all.

At that very moment he rejoiced (in) the holy Spirit and said, “I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.” Turning to the disciples in private he said, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. For I say to you, many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.”

Jesus is the true, the one and the only revealer of the Father. The one, the only and the true Giver of grace and truth. This is the revelation that today the Gospel makes us. Salvation is in this acceptance of Christ the only Mediator between the Father and the whole of humanity. Whoever welcomes this truth, knows God. Never might who does not welcome it know the Lord and he will worship a false god and a false Lord. He will build a false humanity.

For those who are in contact with Jesus Christ, this time is a special time of grace. The entire Old Testament is waiting for this moment. Everyone looked at this hour and in view of it every day renewed their hope. This truth is so announced by the Letter to the Hebrews: “Yet all these, though approved because of their faith, did not receive what had been promised. God had foreseen something better for us, so that without us they should not be made perfect. ” (Heb 11.39 to 40). This is why Jesus declares blessed their eyes and their ears. They are seeing and hearing what prophets and kings had a desire to hear and to see. However, this grace has not been granted to them. However, this bliss must be lived holily. How? Listening with most pure faith to Lord Jesus, not letting any of his words fall through the air.
