Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven

1 NOVEMBER (Mt 5,1-12a)

The true blessing of a man is in his communion with God: a communion of truth, obedience, grace, listening to every Word that today he addresses to the heart and mind. God is the blessing on earth and in the heavens, in time and in eternity. Whoever is with God, has it all, does not lack anything. Even if he has nothing, he has everything because he has God who is his everything. God is everything for his faithful and we are called to be the faithful of God.

“There is no god like the God of the darling, who rides the heavens in his power, and rides the skies in his majesty; He spread out the primeval tent; he extended the ancient canopy. He drove the enemy out of your way and the Amorite he destroyed. Israel has dwelt securely, and the fountain of Jacob has been undisturbed In a land of grain and wine, where the heavens drip with dew. How fortunate you are, O Israel! Where else is a nation victorious in the Lord? The Lord is your saving shield, and his sword is your glory. Your enemies fawn upon you, as you stride upon their heights.” (Dt 33,26-29).
God is always the one to be chosen. He is never chosen once for all. Every day, every hour, every moment it is the time of the choice of God. God is chosen, by choosing his Law.
How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, But they are like chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the wicked will perish.(Psalm 1,1-6).
With Jesus the Word changes, and the blessing also necessarily changes. There is a chasm between the old and the new blessing. Then one was blessed with the observance of the Commandments. Today he is blessed with the observance of the Gospel. What is the Gospel? It is the Law of the total gift of our lives to God and to the brothers. Today Jesus contains his Gospel in eight short phrases that are precisely his Law of blessing.

When he saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him. He began to teach them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you (falsely) because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Today Jesus introduces man into a divine world, into his world, his life. He asks his life to be the life of every one of his disciples. This can happen if the man will make of these eight words, the substance of his daily activities. It is no longer a matter of doing something, of obeying the Word of the Lord. It is a question instead of becoming something, of transforming oneself into something else. A man must transform his rebellious nature, of sin, insubordination, unwillingness toward God, impiety, idolatry, vice, into a Christic, divine nature, able to annihilate himself, in order to be totally available to the greatest love. It is as if an impure body of clay became divine substance.
This can be done in only one way: by feeding every day of the Body of Christ, alimenting us with His blood, so that we also become a spiritualized, divine body, fully transformed in the image of our Creator and Lord. Without this sacramental transformation, man will do something, but will not be transformed, changed, genetically modified. This is the real conversion to the Gospel, the transition from a mud DNA to a DNA of spirit, truth, holiness, true divinization. From the DNA of human sin to the DNA of the most holy, most pure grace God, eternal love, infinite mercy, and gift of love from the cross.
Virgin Mary, Mother of the Redemption, Angels and Saints transform us in our being.
